ChinaUntold

About

Your interests. Your pace. Your China.

ChinaUntold creates tailor-made journeys for travellers who want to experience China in a more personal and authentic way. We design each trip around you — your interests, your pace, and the kind of experience you want to remember.

Guiding since 2008

Our founder, Yolanda Lau, was born in Beijing and has worked as a guide since 2008, specialising in small-group and tailor-made journeys across the country. Alongside that she has spent years designing programmes for international school communities, families and independent travellers.

Over that time we have travelled with guests far beyond the typical tourist trail — into remote Tibetan nomad areas where we were sometimes the only visitors, and into unexpected local festivals and encounters that happened simply because we were there at the right time.

We don't just want to show you China. We want you to experience it.

What that means in practice

Meet local people. Taste food where locals eat. Walk through places that don't appear on every itinerary. Find the traditions, landscapes and stories that conventional tours miss entirely.

Whether your interest is culture, food, history, nature or adventure — or you simply want to see a different side of the country — the journey gets built around that rather than the other way round.

The unglamorous half

Access is only part of the job. The rest is logistics, risk management, knowing which permits take three weeks, and building itineraries with enough slack that a good day is allowed to run long. Years of leading groups in remote places is mostly what that experience buys you.
